Emirates has announced that passengers traveling to, from, or through Dubai are now prohibited from carrying pagers and walkie-talkies in either checked or cabin baggage. In a travel update issued on Friday night, the airline stated that “any such items found in passengers’ luggage will be confiscated by Dubai Police.”
This follows a similar restriction implemented at Beirut-Rafic Hariri International Airport in Lebanon, starting from September 19, after a major attack targeting Hezbollah’s communication systems. Passengers flying to or from Beirut are also banned from carrying pagers and walkie-talkies.
Currently, there are no flights between the UAE and Lebanon. Emirates has suspended flights between Dubai and Beirut until October 8. The airline has also halted all regular flights to and from Iraq (Basra and Baghdad), Iran (Tehran), and Jordan (Amman) until October 5 due to ongoing regional tensions.
Emirates further clarified that “customers transiting through Dubai to final destinations in Iraq, Iran, and Jordan will not be allowed to board at their original point of departure until further notice.”
Meanwhile, flydubai has resumed flights from Dubai to Iran, Iraq, Israel, and Jordan. Etihad Airways, based in Abu Dhabi, has also restarted flights between Abu Dhabi and Tel Aviv as of Thursday.
