In a bid to simplify and enhance the entry process for families of residents coming to or residing in Qatar, the Ministry of Interior has introduced revisions to certain regulations and procedures. This strategic initiative aligns with the government’s overarching goal to improve service quality.
The updated procedures now tie family sponsorship to the terms outlined in the employee’s electronic work contract, particularly concerning salary and accommodation. For government and semi-government employees, securing family housing through their employer or maintaining a salary not less than QR 10,000, as per the employment contract, is mandatory.
Private sector employees in technical or specialized fields (non-labour) should have a salary not less than QR 10,000, or QR 6,000 along with family housing specified in the employment contract.
In family sponsorship cases, children must not exceed 25 years of age, and unmarried daughters are a requirement. Health insurance covering the entire duration of their stay, effective from their entry date into the country, is also mandatory.
Children within the mandatory education age bracket (6-18 years old) must be enrolled in licensed schools within the country or provide evidence of their education enrollment outside Qatar through the Ministry of Education and Higher Education’s supervised educational platform. This is a crucial requirement during the issuance or renewal of the residence permit.
For family visits, the sponsoring resident’s profession must belong to non-labour sectors, with a salary not less than QR 5,000. The sponsoring resident should have family housing accredited by relevant authorities.
While there is no specific age restriction for the visiting relative, health insurance covering the visitor’s stay in Qatar is mandatory. These updated regulations and procedures are currently in effect.
To ensure public convenience, the General Directorate of Passports offers all its services electronically through the Metrash2 app and the Ministry of Interior’s official website.
