The Power of Campaigns and Events
The surge in visitor numbers can be attributed to the effective implementation of Qatar Tourism’s “Feel More in Qatar” campaign, which garnered significant attention in key markets. Additionally, the country’s continuous calendar of world-class events has played a pivotal role in maintaining an energetic atmosphere, carrying on the momentum from last year’s FIFA World CupTM tournament. The relaunch of the Hayya platform and the extension of Hayya for existing cardholders have facilitated a seamless entry process for visitors requiring a visa.
Exciting Events and Festivals
Qatar Tourism has organized a series of highly successful events since January as part of their “Feel Winter in Qatar” campaign. This included the 19th edition of the Doha Jewellery and Watches Exhibition, the 12th edition of the Qatar International Food Festival, and numerous concerts under the banner of Qatar Live. Qatar has also continued to build on its sporting legacy by hosting international events such as the Qatar GKA Freestyle Kite World Cup 2023, World Judo Championships, and the 8th Qatar Tennis Federation Open, among others.
Eid Celebrations and Increased Arrivals
The Eid celebrations held in April and June have contributed significantly to the surge in arrivals, as Qatar Tourism’s “Eid in Qatar” campaigns featured a diverse range of events and activities. The Qatar Calendar, a monthly events guide, provided visitors with valuable information on how to make the most of the festive celebrations.
Positive Momentum and Future Outlook
Berthold Trenkel, Chief Operating Officer at Qatar Tourism, expressed his satisfaction with the strong half-year results. He attributed this success to the determination, hard work, and resilience of everyone involved in Qatar’s tourism and hospitality industry. Qatar’s commitment to Service Excellence, its leading hospitality infrastructure, and the ongoing lineup of international events have solidified its position as the Middle East’s fastest-growing tourism destination.
Visitor Statistics and Key Source Markets
During the first half of 2023, arrivals by air constituted 51% of all visitors to Qatar, while arrivals by land and sea accounted for 37% and 12% respectively. Visitors from Saudi Arabia remain the top source market for international visitors, contributing to nearly a quarter of all arrivals. India and Germany follow as significant source markets.
Exciting Future Events
The positive momentum in Qatar’s tourism sector is set to continue throughout the rest of the year with highly anticipated events, including Qatar Tourism’s “Feel Summer in Qatar,” the Geneva International Motor Show, Formula 1, and Expo Doha 2023. These upcoming events promise to further enhance Qatar’s appeal as a premier tourism destination.
