With just over two weeks left until the start of the holy month of Ramadan, it appears that residents of the UAE are already making plans for the upcoming Eid Al Fitr holiday. Based on travel trends, this will be the first extended weekend of 2023.
After the holy month of Ramadan, the Islamic festival is celebrated on the first day of Shawwal, which is the succeeding month in the Hijri calendar.
On Thursday, March 23, the holy month of Ramadan commenced in the Emirates. Islamic months have a duration of 29 or 30 days, depending on the sighting of the moon. This year, astronomical calculations forecast that Ramadan will persist for 29 days
In the UAE, the Eid Al Fitr holiday is scheduled from the 29th day of Ramadan to the 3rd day of Shawwal. It is probable that the first day of Eid, which is Shawwal 1, likely be on Friday, April 21.
The holiday will commence on the 29th day of Ramadan, which is on Thursday, April 20. Furthermore, Shawwal 1, 2, and 3 are also holidays. Based on astronomical calculations, these will fall on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, which is on April 21, 22, and 23, respectively
Thus, the long weekend will span from Thursday, April 20, to Sunday, April 23. Despite the fact that astronomical calculations can establish the commencement and termination of lunar months, the specific dates will be declared subsequent to the sighting of the crescent Moon.
The costs of airfares from the UAE to prominent destinations have already surged for travel arrangements scheduled during the holiday period.
As stated by online travel agency Musafir.com, budget-friendly destinations with easy visa procedures such as Azerbaijan, Georgia, Armenia, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan are currently popular. The most sought-after holiday packages are those that cost between Dh3,000-4,000.
