The flag of Qatar is divided into two main sections. One quarter of the flag’s width is occupied by a white band on the hoist side, while the remaining three-quarters feature a reddish-maroon color. Each white triangle symbolizes one of the nine Emirates that initially entered the Qatari-British treaty in 1916. These Emirates included Qatar, Bahrain, Al Zubarah, Al Wakrah, Al Khor, Umm Salal, Al Rayyan, Dukhan, and Jariyan al Batnah. Signifying Qatar’s position as the ninth and final signatory, the nine triangles represent its role among the Emirates.

In 1960, under the rule of Sheikh Ali Bin Abdullah Al Thani, a slight adjustment was made to the flag. While retaining the white and maroon colors, the diamonds and ‘Qatar’ inscription were removed, shaping the flag into its current form.
