What is the minimum wage in Qatar?
In Qatar, law No. 17 of 2020 sets the minimum wage as QAR 1,000 per month as a basic salary, along with QAR 500 per month if the employer already provides adequate food or housing for the employee. This means employers can either provide food and lodging or pay more to allow employees to provide their own.
There are three different rates for the minimum wage-
- Your employer must provide decent food and accommodation for you in return for a starting salary of at least 1,000 QAR.
- You have a right to a food allowance of no less than QAR 300 on top of a minimum basic wage of QAR 1,000 if your employer provides you with decent housing but no food. You should receive at least QAR 1,300 per month in this case.
- If your employer does not provide lodging or food for you, you can claim allowances of up to 300 QAR for food and up to 500 QAR for lodging on top of your basic salary of at least 1,000 QAR. Hence you should receive QAR 1,800 per month.
