Hot weather can seriously change the way we live. Not to mention how we behave. Who doesn’t get cranky when the temperature shoots up and the humidity increases? But there are ways to keep you cool during how weather.
Drink Water, before you’re even thirsty. You should drink more water during hot days to replenish the fluids you lose when sweating. Don’t wait to drink until you’re thirsty, because that means you’re already dehydrated. Being dehydrated, even for a short time, can do damage to your body. Try to avoid caffeinated drinks because they become diuretics—they take out fluids from your body. Also, try to eat foods with a high water content, like watermelons, pears and melons. They’re healthy too!
Limit outdoor activity. Sure it’s fun to go out, but that’s not advisable during hot weather especially when it’s mid-day where the sun is at its peak. If you need to go out, try early in the morning or after 4 pm. Also, don’t forget to apply sunscreen.
Wear loose, light clothing. Cotton is great apparel during hot weather. But make sure it’s not tight clothing. You can also wear sweat-wicking clothes. These type of clothes move the sweat away from your skin and onto the top of the fabric where it can evaporate and cool you off.
Pace yourself. It’s easy to get exhausted when it’s hot. So take a slower. More methodical pace. Once you get the hang of it, try to reach your usual pace.
Schedule exercises early or late in the day. Assuming you have outdoor activity, its best to schedule them in the early morning and evening, when it’s not too hot. Mid-afternoon outdoor activities are a killer since it’s when the heat peaks.
Stay in air-conditioned rooms. An electric fan is nice, but during really hot days, AC is still the best option. Just remember to clean the filter so the air circulating is clean
