The National Vision of Qatar addresses five major challenges:
Modernization & preservation of traditions
Maintaining cultural traditions has become a major challenge for many societies as the world becomes more globalized and interconnected.
Due to economic and population growth, Qatar has faced tensions between the old and the new in almost every aspect of its life. There are times when modern work patterns and competitive pressures clash with traditional relationships based on trust and personal ties and create strains on family life.
Future generations’ needs and the current generation’s
The needs of this generation will be met by Qatar without compromising the needs of future generations.
The notion of sustainable development refers to a process that meets the needs of the present generation without compromising their ability to meet their own needs in the future. This is often referred to as ‘intergenerational justice’. The rights of future generations would be threatened if non-renewable resources were not replaced by renewable sources of wealth.
Managed growth and uncontrolled expansion
Qatar wants to close the gap quickly, but there are speed limits.
The economic activities of Qatar are booming at the moment. Nevertheless, this growth could drain the country’s resources, overstress its economy, and cause it to lose focus on its targeted objectives. In overheating and imbalanced economic conditions, price rises can cause financial vulnerabilities; deterioration in public services; low and stagnant labor productivity; degradation of project quality; and widening of social cleavages and tensions.
The size and quality of expatriate labor forces, along with the chosen development path
Qatar’s leaders and people must choose a development path that is compatible with the targeted size and quality of expatriates.
Currently, Qatar is experiencing high rates of population growth, mainly due to massive urban development, large-scale investment projects, and rising government spending. As a result of these factors, the proportion of ex-pats in the labor force has risen dramatically, and the immigration of unskilled workers has increased sharply and unanticipated
