Bassem Hemeida from Qatar won the gold medal in the 400m hurdles event at the Asian Athletics Championships in Bangkok on July 15, 2023. The competition had more than 500 athletes from 41 Asian countries.
Bassem, who is 23 years old, came in first place in the race. His amazing performance not only gave him the gold medal but also qualified him for the World Championships in Hungary next month and the Paris Olympics in 2024.
He finished the race in 48.64 seconds, beating Japan’s Yusaku Kodama who won the silver medal with a time of 48.96 seconds. India’s Santhosh Kumar came in third place and won the bronze medal.
Bassem was incredibly happy and couldn’t describe his joy at winning his first gold medal at the continental level. He spoke to Qatar News Agency (QNA) and expressed his gratitude for the achievement, which opens up opportunities for him to compete in more international competitions in the future.
