The Qatar Traffic Department is doing its best to provide the best possible way to make traffic conditions better. So don’t be surprised if you see a drone overhead while you navigate the traffic.
A video posted in its official Twitter account, the QTD showed how one of their drones monitored the traffic in a busy intersection. In the video, the yellow, blue and white camera-fitted drone with a QTD logo is shown parked on the roof of the police patrol. The officer, sitting inside the vehicle, controls the drone. The flying machine then sends an image of the traffic situation which the officer can clearly see inside his vehicle. Allowing him to see a clearer picture, as well as a different perspective of the situation.
The drone is one of the more progressive ideas of the QTD. Typically, a traffic officer monitors the roads with the use of cameras installed at the signals. Officers are also physically present. However, with the help of the drone, footage from the top and intersections will now be available. Along with coordination with ground officers, this will make traffic management a lot easier.
The drone is still in the testing phase and there is no word whether it will be part of the QTD’s regular traffic monitoring arsenal.
