Qatar, Kuwait strengthen tourism ties

The Kuwaiti Ministry of Information and Qatari General Commission for Tourism recently signed an agreement which will enhance the tourism relations of both countries.

The agreement will set the stage for long-term cooperation in the field of tourism, mutual benefit through exchanging information and experiences related to development and planning. Also, there will be an exchange of programming material, announcements and advertisement, together with a joint promotion of Kuwaiti and Qatari destination.

Acting Chairman of the General Commission for Tourism, Hassan Al-Ibrahim, and Jassim Al-Habib, Assistant Undersecretary of Tourism signed the agreement in Kuwait City.

Al-Ibrahim stated that the signing of the agreement is based on the excellent economic and popular relations with Qatar and Kuwait, which both countries have enjoyed in the years of being partners. The agreement will also promote inter-tourism and enhance further cooperation.

The tourism deal with Kuwait, is just one of many mutual agreements Qatar has been sharing with other countries. Previously, Qatar strengthened its ties with the European Union. A few weeks ago, Qatar and Jordan intensified economic relations. Jordan was one of the countries which downgraded its diplomatic ties with Qatar when the Gulf Crisis hit in 2017. Going as far as recalling its ambassador in Doha. However, it seems like the Arab nation is slowly gearing its way to a more diplomatic stance.

In the agreement, both Gulf countries will invite their citizens as well as expats, to spend holidays and organize tourism trips. Both countries will also be encouraging public and private sectors to invest, develop and implement tourist projects which can help both countries.

Nael Kabariti, Chairman of Jordan’s Chamber of Commerce, and his delegation met with Qatar Chamber Chariman Sheikh Khalifa Bin Jassim Al Thani met in Qatar to discuss joint projects. The two parties later agreed to reconvene in Amman, Jordan’s capital later in the month.

Kabatiri stated that the blockade did not deter the trade relations of private companies within their respective countries. Qatar still remains as the third largest investor in Jordan with around $2 billion worth of investments, mostly in real estate and the financial sector.
