The Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) in Dubai has issued guidelines for school timings during Ramadan, restricting instruction time to five hours per day. Shamma Al Mansouri, Director of Permits at KHDA, emphasized that schools must end by 12pm on Fridays. Al Mansouri extended wishes for a blessed holy month, highlighting the virtues of compassion, patience, and perseverance.

Ramadan is expected to commence on March 12th, with variations due to local moon sightings. Schools will collaborate with parents to finalize timings, ensuring compliance with KHDA’s directives. Some schools have adopted a schedule from 7.45am to 12.45pm Monday to Thursday, maintaining regular timings on Fridays.

The initiative aims to create optimal learning environments, prioritizing student well-being throughout the holy month. KHDA encourages schools to instill spiritual values associated with Ramadan and minimize assessments, allowing students ample time for family and prayer.

Spring break for many international curricula institutions will coincide with Ramadan, providing students with a brief vacation. Indian curriculum schools will also align schedules, offering students time for reflection and relaxation before the new academic year begins.

Principal Sangita Chima of Amity School Dubai expressed that the academic calendar aligns well with Ramadan, enabling students to manage their commitments effectively. Chima highlighted the school’s efforts to foster religious and cultural understanding, providing diverse spiritual learning opportunities during Ramadan.
