Key theater chains in North America, such as AMC, Regal, Cinemark, Cineplex, and Marcus, are gearing up to fortify their operations as the entertainment industry looks ahead to the summer of 2022 and beyond.

Cinemamark, the third-largest cinema chain in the US, has seen its monthly membership program, ‘Movie Club,’ exceed 1 million active members, with an average of over 3000 members per theater. For reference, the top five theater chains in North America are as follows:

  2. Regal – 6851 screens
  3. Cinemark – 4426 screens
  4. Cineplex Entertainment – 1676 screens
  5. Marcus Theaters Corp – 1066 screens

For Indian-Americans residing in the US and many immigrants living and working in major cities, going to the movies is a beloved pastime. The films garner immense praise, and local industry experts frequently cite US box office collections as a measure of a movie’s success. Notably, the Cinemark theater chain is a significant supporter of Indian cinema in the US. Cinemark’s consistent focus on multicultural films has highlighted the success of blockbusters like “RRR,” following the 2017 hit “Baahubali 2: The Conclusion,” which remains the second-highest-grossing Indian title in North America. To illustrate, a film by SS Rajamouli can easily generate $14 million in the US box office, while top star vehicles typically earn $2-3 million if they receive positive reviews. Even films featuring Tier-2 stars like Nani consistently cross the $1 million mark, depending on their reception.
