The first step to renewing an Emirates ID for ex-pats is renewing their UAE residency visa as the two are linked with each other. They can only apply for renewal if they have a valid residency visa in the UAE.
The process of renewing Emirates ID is very straightforward and is mentioned below for the citizens of UAE. In both cases, you can follow the following steps.

Step 1: Register & submit the renewal form
The first toward the renewal process is to collect all the required documents mentioned below and head to any of the following three service centers.
- Typing Centers in Dubai
- Dubai Customer Happiness Centers
- Federal Authority For Identity & Citizenship (FAIC) service centers/ smart services/ mobile applications.
These channels simplify the whole process of Emirates ID renewal for you. They will assist you to fill out the renewal form.
Step 2: Pay the fees
After uploading and submitting the application form, you need to pay the required renewal fees. The fees are conditional on the validity of the ID as well as the center.
Typing Center:
- Ex-pats– AED 170 for 1 years; AED 270 for 2 years; AED 370 for 3 years
- UAE Citizens– AED 170 for 5 years; AED270 for 10 years
- GCC National– AED 170 for 5 years
FAIC Website/ Smart App:
- Ex-pats- AED 140 for 1 year; AED 240 for 2 years; AED 340 for 3 years.
- UAE Citizens- AED 290 for 5 years; AED 390 for 10 years.
- GCC National- AED 290 for 5 years
Customer Happiness Centers
- Ex-pat/ Resident– AED 290 for 1 year; AED 390 for 2 years; AED 490 for 3 years.
- UAE Citizens- AED 290 for 5 years; AED 390 for 10 years.
- GCC National- 290 for 5 years.
Step 3: Verify your Biometrics
After completing the payment, you will receive an SMS informing application status. The third step is to verify your biometrics data.
Step 4: Collect your Renewed Emirates ID
After completing all the three steps you will get an SMS informing you the ID card is ready for collection from a post office of your choice.
Required Documents
There is a need for different documents for the renewal of the ID card for UAE Citizens, GCC Nationals, and Expatriates. The documents are mentioned below:
For Expats
- Original valid residency visa/ entry permit
- Original passport
- Old Emirates ID Card
- Residency visa under renewal
- Personal photo (4.5 cm x 3.5 cm) with white background, original birth certificate OR father’s passport or Emirates ID, passport and visa of the sponsor of the applicant (only for newborns)
For UAE Citizens
- Original family book
- Original passport
- Personal photo (4.5 x 3.5 cm) with white background, original birth certificate, or fathers’ passport/ Emirates ID for newborns only or those under the age of 15.
For GCC Nationals
- Original valid GCC ID card
- Original passport
- Proof of residency in the UAE
- Personal photo (4.5 x 3.5 cm) with white background, original birth certificate, or fathers’ passport/ Emirates ID for newborns only or those under the age of 15.
