Remember that the border police make the final decision on whether or not you are allowed to enter the Netherlands. Who Require a Schengen visa to Get into the Netherlands?

You are a passport holder from a third world country that has not signed a visa liberalization agreement with the Schengen countries

Note: These visas allow you to stay in the Netherlands for up to 90 days within a period of 180 days. If you need a visa for a long-term stay in the Netherlands, apply for a Dutch national visa instead.
What documents do I need to apply for a Schengen visa for the Netherlands?
Due to Dutch visa regulations, legal documents must be submitted to the Dutch embassy/consulate in your country of residence as part of your Dutch short-term visa application. The legal Dutch visa requirements are:
- Dutch visa application form. Please complete completely and truthfully. After printing, don’t forget to sign at the end
- Two passport photos. The photo must be no older than 3 months and must be taken in accordance with the Dutch Schengen visa application photo requirements.
- A valid passport. Make sure your passport is no older than 10 years and is valid for at least 3 months from the date you plan to leave the Netherlands and the entire Schengen area
- Copy of previous visa (if applicable)
- Netherlands Travel Health Insurance. Confirmation that you have travel health insurance that is valid for the Dutch territory and the entire Schengen Area. Your insurance must cover medical emergencies in this zone with a minimum range of €30,000.
- Round-trip schedule. A document showing that you have booked a flight to/from the Netherlands. This document must include flight number, date and customer details
- Proof of accommodation. Proof of where you will be staying during your stay in the Netherlands. i.e., Hotel reservations.
- Proof of citizenship. This can be a marriage certificate, a child’s birth certificate, a spouse’s death certificate, etc.
- Proof of sufficient financial means for your stay in the Netherlands. The Dutch embassy/consulate in his country of residence requires proof that he has at least 34 euros per day for use in the Netherlands.
- A cover letters. A personal letter explaining why you are applying for a visit to the Netherlands, how long you will be staying, when you will depart and other details.

Dutch Visa Requirements for Minors
Minors applying for a short-stay visa in the Netherlands, or parents applying for a visa for minors, must complete the following additional Dutch visa requirements in their application documents:
- Excerpt from the birth certificate of minors traveling to the Netherlands.
- Dutch application signed by parents.
- Identity documents signed by parents (one document per parent)
- Consent letter from the parents that the minor can travel.
- A court decision indicating which parent was given parental responsibility for the minor, if applicable.
- A statement from the minor’s school consenting to the minor’s absence (if applicable).
Note: Minor children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian when applying at the Dutch Embassy/Consulate in their home country.
Additional requirements based on purpose of entry into the Netherlands
Depending on your purpose for entering the Netherlands, you will need to present some additional documents. Below are additional Dutch visa requirements based on the purpose of your trip to the Netherlands.
Netherlands airport transit visa requirements
A Dutch airport transit visa allows you to land at a Dutch airport, stay in the international zone of the airport for up to 24 hours, and take another flight to a non-Schengen destination country.
Documents required for a Schengen visa for airport transit to the Netherlands
The following additional documents must be presented when applying for a Dutch airport transit visa:
- A valid visa for the last country to travel (if required)
- Air ticket for the last country to travel.
Netherlands transit visa requirements
The Dutch transit visa was introduced for persons arriving in the Netherlands by sea from non-Schengen countries, especially seafarers.

Business visa requirements in the Netherlands
If you want to travel to the Netherlands for business activities, signing contracts, attending business meetings, etc., you should apply for a Dutch business visa.
Documents required for a business Schengen visa to the Netherlands
When applying for a Dutch business visa, you will need to submit the following additional documents:
- Invitation letter from the Dutch company to be visited with its exact address and date of visit.
- Dispatch letter from employer. This letter should state the reason for traveling to Netherlands.
- Business statement. Preferably within the last 6 months.
- Memorandum and Article of Association. A certified copy (registered to a stock company) must be submitted.
- Trading license (originally issued and currently being renewed).
- Proof of travel funds. As regards the applicant’s expenses during his stay in the Netherlands, either the employer or the affiliated company must state that the expenses will be included in the letter or invitation.

Where can I apply for a Dutch short stay visa?

Who can apply for a Schengen visa at the Dutch Embassy/Consulate/VAC?
If the only Schengen country you wish to visit is the Netherlands, please submit an application for a short stay visa to the Dutch Embassy/Consulate in your country of residence.
However, if you also want to visit other countries, the Dutch Embassy/Consulate will only process your application if one of the following applies:
- The number of days spent in the Netherlands is longer than in other countries.
- Spend the same number of days in each country, but enter the Schengen area via the Netherlands.
Furthermore, the Dutch Embassy/Consulate/VAC will only accept your application if it meets one of the following criteria:
- You are a citizen of the country from which you are applying.
- You are a foreigner with a permanent/temporary residence permit in the country from which you are applying.
Note: It is not possible to apply for a Dutch short-stay visa from a country where you currently have a visa.
How long does it take to get a Dutch visa?
Processing time for a Dutch short stay visa can take up to 15 days. This period may be extended for up to 30 days, depending on certain circumstances. In exceptional cases, it may take up to 60 days as the Dutch Embassy needs to check with other Schengen consulates.
To avoid delays in issuing your Dutch short-stay visa, you should submit your application as early as possible, at least three months before your arrival in the Netherlands.
How much does it cost to apply for a Dutch visa?
Dutch short-term visa fees are as follows:
- Dutch visa for adult travellers €80
- Dutch visa for children (6 – 12 years old) 40 €
- Netherlands visa for children (under 6) free

How long can I stay in the Netherlands without a visa?
If you are a citizen of a visa-exempt country, you can enter and stay in the Netherlands for up to 90 days within a period of 180 days. Again, depending on your nationality, if you wish to stay longer than 90 days, you will need to:
- EU/EEA citizens – register with the relevant Dutch authorities within 3 months of arrival.
- Citizens of Australia, Israel, Japan, Canada, New Zealand, South Korea and the United States – Apply for a residence permit within 3 months of arrival.

Can I Revoke my Dutch Schengen visa?
Yes, your Netherlands visa may be revoked if the Dutch competent authorities conclude that the conditions for issuing the visa have not been met.
If you are in the Netherlands at the time the decision to cancel your visa is made, you will be given a time limit to leave the Netherlands. If you do not leave the Netherlands or the Schengen Area within this period, you will be considered to be in the Netherlands illegally.
