Qatar is a region where a mix of ethnicities can easily be seen having various types of cuisines available. From Indian to Iranian to North African to Levantine, Qatar has made a mark through such tasteful food.  

Due to the Arab culture and Bedouin tradition, Arab dishes such as Kebabs, Hummus, or Tabbouleh are well-liked. Apart from, there many such unique dishes to experience without which your visit to this Arabian country would be incomplete. 

So, whether you planning to visit Qatar or are newly arrived resident, let’s take a look at some more Qatari dishes so that you would be comfortable in ordering your next favorite dish – 

1. Machboos


Machboos is the national food of Qatar and often cooked in Qatari’s family. The dish is also famous by the name Kabsa, which is a kind of biryani, a spiced rice cooked with vegetables and meat. When served with lemon juice and rosewater sprinkled, the dish is simply irresistible. 

2. Harees


Harees is an in-demand dish during the month of Ramadan and other Festivals. The dish is a mixture of boiled ground wheat with butter and meat. When garnished with cardamom and cinnamon, the dish is considered good for health. 

3. Madrouba


If you want a dish to break your fast especially in times of Ramadan, Madrouba is the one you must try. The dish is almost similar to Harees, the difference is it is prepared with rice. 4. Balaleet


If you are a breakfast lover then Balaleet is the one for you. The dish can easily be prepared with fried vermicelli noodles. To generate a better taste, it can be cooked with cinnamon, saffron, sugar, and cardamom. Adding nuts makes it crunchy. The dish can be served as both cold and hot and can also be eaten with an omelet. 

5. Thareed


Thareed is also known as Qatari Lasagna which is prepared as a stew by mixing vegetables, chicken, and pieces of bread at the bottom. Other veggies like carrots, potatoes, onions, beans can be added to enhance the taste. The dish is served by covering it with tomato sauce and spices. 

6. Margoog


Maroog is a dish rich in fiber and vitamins. It is prepared by mixing veggies and meat. Carrots, Zucchini, eggplant, potatoes, and tomatoes are also blended with meat. Thin layers of raw bread dough are boiled to soak up the flavor. 

7. Mahalabiya


Mahalabiya is a dessert dish that is perfect to taste after dinner. It is prepared from ground rice milk. Milk, heavy cream, sugar, and rose water or orange water are used to generate flavor.  



Luqaimat is another dessert for you. The dessert is deep-fried dough dipped in syrup or honey. The dessert is a Ramadan special dish that is soft from inside and crunchy outside. Butter, milk, sugar, cardamom, saffron will be the required ingredients to prepare.
