Imprisonment for theft worth QR 85,000

The Criminal Court sentenced imprisonment, fine and deportation to the 11 defendant who did robbery of worth QR 85,000 at night and acquitted one of them. The court ruled that the defendants had been sentenced to between one and seven years in prison for their charges and would be deported from Qatar back to their home countries after they serve their time in prison, according to Al-Sharq.

The 11 persons were charged and presented to the Criminal Court for aggravated robbery, stealing electrical cables by the public prosecutor’s office. They had also charges for assaulting a security guard of Laila Company.

According to the facts, the accused were wearing masks and had two cars. Their plan was to steal electrical cables from the Laila company site. They entered the site to steal, but two guards saw them who were standing there. Then accused assaulted the guards. The accused did some deal for 85,000 riyals with the eighth accused after carried out the crime.

The legal representative for a number of accused in the case, Lawyer Nahar Rashid al-Nuami defended them with a legal memorandum with evidence and witnesses.

In his note, al-Nuaimi said that Article 309 of the Penal Code stipulates that an accused shall be punished with a term of imprisonment of not more than one year or a fine of not more than 5,000 riyals or one of these penalties, anyone who deliberately assaulted the integrity of another’s body by any means and did not reach the level of gravity stipulated in the law.

Article 337 of the Act also specifies that anyone who commits a theft, coercion or threat to use a weapon shall be sentenced to up to seven years imprisonment.

The judge made the decision based on the evidence provided. The Court looked at all the reasoning of crime and decided that the accused will be sentenced to imprisonment, fines and deportation.
