Governor of New York Andrew Cuomo was all praise for Qatar for the timely supply of critical medical supplies to New York to fight its war against Coronavirus as the state is termed as the worst-hit American State.
Governor Cuomo, in a tweet, thanked the Qatari government for its help. He said, “Thank you to the government and people of Qatar from the people of New York. We are grateful for your assistance in helping send critical supplies and for the donation of aid.”
In line with its fight against coronavirus, Qatar has been supplying medical equipment such as PPE kits, hand sanitizers, masks, and gloves to friendly countries. It has helped 20 countries till now as per the Foreign Ministry of Qatar. As per the statement made by Peninsular Qatar, the country is helping other nations by building field hospitals and contributing to healthcare institutions of the friendly nations. The government is proactively taking part in developing vaccines. Qatar has already made a contribution of more than $130 million to organizations working towards developing potential vaccines for Covid19 which has claimed more than 250,000 lives and infected more than 3 million people worldwide.
In other instances, Qatar Airways has been helping by airlifting critical medical supplies in their cargo aircraft and to transport people to their home countries as well. In the last month, Foreign Minister of Italy, Luigi Di Maio had thanked Qatar for its assistance in fighting the pandemic because Doha had donated two field hospitals with 500 beds each. Also in the same month, the Qatar Charity and the UNICEF signed two grant agreements worth $2 million to address the humanitarian crisis caused by the virus in Syria and Jordan.
