Features of the Saudi e-passport:
The e-passport is designed with an electronic chip embedded within its cover. This chip securely stores the passport holder’s biographic and biometric information, including digital photographs, full name, date of birth, fingerprints, and signature. The inclusion of biometric technology enables more secure and efficient identification processes.
The e-passport facilitates easy verification and scanning at smart gates located at international borders. This allows for a streamlined entry and exit process for travelers. Additionally, the pages of the e-passport are adorned with images representing Saudi Arabia’s most famous historical and cultural landmarks, adding a distinctive touch.
Eligibility and Application Process:
Generally, Saudi citizens who are 18 years of age or older are eligible to apply for the Saudi e-passport. To initiate the application process, individuals need to visit the Absher portal and register for an account using their national ID number.
Once logged into the Absher account, applicants should navigate to the ‘Citizens’ section and access the ‘Passport Services’ tab. They will be required to complete an online application form, providing accurate and necessary information. This may include personal details, supporting documents, and the preferred validity duration (5 or 10 years).
Payment of the passport fee is made online through the Absher platform. The fee varies depending on the chosen validity duration and type of passport (e.g., new issuance or renewal). Once the application is submitted, applicants can track the progress of their request through the Absher portal.
Requirements and Processing Time:
Before the issuance of the e-passport, any outstanding traffic violations must be settled. Additionally, applicants need to visit an authorized passport office or center to have their fingerprints and photograph captured. The applicant must be present in the Kingdom during the application process.
The processing time for the Saudi e-passport is typically 3-5 working days from the date of application submission. The e-passport will be delivered to the registered address on the Absher platform through a shipment process.
Passport Validity and Cost:
For applicants over the age of 20, they can choose between a 5-year or 10-year passport validity. Those who are under 20 years old are only eligible for a 5-year passport. The issuance and renewal fees for the e-passport are the same as those for conventional passports.
The fee for a 5-year Saudi e-passport is SR 300, while a 10-year Saudi e-passport costs SR 600.
Contact Information:
