A recent Bloomberg report has shed light on the United Arab Emirates’ potential initiative to simplify visa procedures for its neighboring Gulf nations, Qatar included.
Presently, citizens of Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries enjoy visa-free movement across borders, a convenience not extended to foreign residents who often face visa requirements when traversing GCC boundaries.
As detailed by Bloomberg, UAE’s Economy Minister, Abdulla bin Touq Al Marri, disclosed during a conference in Abu Dhabi on September 26, 2023, that a revamped visa system is being contemplated. This proposed system aims to afford foreign residents of Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia the liberty to travel unhindered within the GCC member countries. Minister Al Marri hinted that the formal introduction of this proposal is imminent, slated for the “near future.”
